French Press/Full Immersion/Kopi Kampung for Autophagy

Minum kopi O tanpa gula rupanya baik untik autophagy, iaitu pnyembuhan sel sel.

French press ini serupa dengan cari Kopi di buat di kampung. Simpan air mendidih sajaja.

Cuma perlu di goreng sampai coklat saja, tidak boleh sampai hitam. Kisar pun sa halus yang boleh. Paling bagus Turkish coffee lah.

To extract the maximum amount of chlorogenic acid (CGA) from a light roast using a 500ml French press, you need high water temperatures, a high surface-area fine grind, and a long immersion time.

However, brewing finely ground coffee in a French press presents two challenges: fine sediment clogging the mesh filter and cafestol (a lipid in coffee that elevates LDL cholesterol). The method below solves both while maximizing your polyphenol yield.

Brew Parameters

  • Coffee Dose: 30g (light roast, ground finely—similar to table salt or Aeropress size)
  • Water Volume: 500ml
  • Water Temperature: 95^\circ\text{C} - 98^\circ\text{C} (boiling water rested for 30 seconds)
  • Target Extraction: High chlorogenic acid yield (~120–180mg total CGAs)

Step-by-Step Brewing Method

  1. Preheat the Press
    Timing: 30 seconds
Pour hot water into your 500ml French press, swirl it to warm the glass vessel, and discard the water. Dense light roasts require high heat to extract; warming the vessel prevents a sharp temperature drop.
  2. Add Coffee & Pour Boiling Water
    Water Temp: 95°C–98°C
Add 30g of finely ground coffee to the dry press. Pour 500ml of hot water aggressively over the grounds to ensure total saturation and turbulence. Do not attach the lid or plunger yet.
  3. Steep Untouched
    Duration: 4 minutes
Let the mixture steep untouched for 4 minutes. The fine grounds will float to the top and form a thick crust, rapidly releasing water-soluble chlorogenic acids into the water.
  4. Break the Crust & Skim
    Timing: At the 4-minute mark
Gently stir the top crust with a spoon. Most fine grounds will immediately sink to the bottom. Use two spoons to skim off the floating foam, oils, and remaining floating silt from the surface.
  5. Settle the Fine Bed
    Duration: 3 to 5 minutes
Allow the coffee to sit undisturbed for another 3 to 5 minutes. Gravity will pull the fine particles to the bottom of the beaker, creating a clear top layer.
  6. Pour Gently (Optional Paper Filtration)
Safety: Do NOT press plunger down
Insert the plunger lid, but do not press the mesh screen down through the grounds. Forcing a mesh plunger through a fine bed creates turbulence that kicks up sediment and can cause hot liquid to spurt out. Press the screen down just 1 inch below the surface to act as a pour-strainer, then pour gently into your cup. > Health Tip for Autophagy: To catch cafestol (the lipid that raises LDL cholesterol) while keeping 100% of the autophagy-stimulating polyphenols, decant the liquid from your French press through a simple paper filter cone (like a V60 or drip filter paper).

Why This Maximizes Autophagy

  1. High Surface Area: Finely ground beans expose significantly more cell walls to hot water than a standard coarse French press grind, doubling total CGA extraction.
  2. Thermal Extraction: Light roasts require near-boiling water to break down dense bean structures. Pre-warming the vessel keeps temperatures in the optimal 90^\circ\text{C}+ range throughout the steep.
  3. Gravity Settle: Letting fine grounds settle naturally over 7–9 total minutes yields a sweet, highly concentrated brew without micro-silt bittering the final cup.
