Dialing-in Dessini CM14, Bambino and Dedica

There are few videos describing how to use the Dessini CM-14. However, Breville Bambino is so similar that we can use the same instructions for both machines.

The 1 shot button outputs 1 oz or 28 g of output.

The 2 shot button outputs 2 oz or 56 g of output.

We can stop them at any time but Bambino may have extra functions.

CM-14 also outputs steam or water but it has one button to select steam. If not selected, it defaulted to water. The output for steam or water is controlled by a twisting knob.

For detailed dialing-in, watch this Bambino instructions.

The Delonghi Dedica is even closer to Dessini CM-14.

The video below is a good introduction and possible upgrades that also apply to CM-14.

Below is s video of dialing-in by just pressing the 1-cup button once, no need to stop.

No need for the tedious levelling. I can remove channelling by using putting a paper filter on top. It cleans the head as well. The plastic tamper provided is good enough. To ensure more level, twist the tamper while pressing.

The paper filter. can be cut by using the tamper as a template. To finish the circle, fold the circle 3 times at the centre until 1/8 the of a quadrant. Then trim the edges to get a more rounded circle.

The puck. screen is better but thicker. I can only get 12 g in the 1-cup basket. With paper filter, I can get 14 g but this is still too small.

The next video shows how to precisely time the output by pressing and holding the Dedica button. Not sure if Dedica remembers the setting like the Bambino. CM-14 cannot be programmed. Press and release to switch on. Press and hold. The button will switch off on release.

Dessini CM-14 is a close clone of Delonghi Dedica so it's accessories and operations are similar. The next video explains a lot.

While dialing-in, I continue brewing for the next cup. The first cup is more intense, because of its low ratio, 1:2, but the second cup is acceptable. It tastes like French Press coffee with 1:14 ratio. Less bitter or sour but watery.

I was able to get the timing of 25 seconds for 30 g out using 14 g of  Extra fine grind from Blend.com coffee in unpressurised single basket. Its taste have both sourness and bitterness. I cannot yell much difference from other doses, even using pressurised baskets.
